Central Pollution Control Board
CPCB II emission norms, applicable from April 1, 2014, mandate cleaner emission standards for diesel generator sets (up to 800 kW) in India, requiring manufacturers to reduce NOx+HC and particulate matter emissions compared to earlier CPCB I norms

CPCB II norms are considered more stringent than European Stage IIIA and CEV BS III emission standards.
To meet these emission standards, manufacturers need to invest in advanced engines and emission control technologies such as electronic fuel systems, advanced after-treatment systems (ATS), and exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) systems.
Bureau of Indian Standards
BIS certification, specifically under the Compulsory Registration Scheme (CRS), is mandatory for legal sale within India, ensuring compliance with Indian standards.
Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is India's national standards body, responsible for ensuring the quality and safety of goods. BIS certification, or the ISI mark, signifies that a product meets the required standards.
Under the CRS, certain products, including generators, require BIS certification before they can be legally sold in India.

ISO 9001:2015 certification, an international standard for quality management systems, demonstrates a company's ability to consistently provide products and services that meet customer and regulatory requirements. For generator manufacturers, this certification can signify a commitment to quality and reliability.

Conformity of Production

Indian generator industry, the Conformity of Production (COP) certification, along with Type Approval, is crucial for manufacturers, importers, and assemblers to ensure their products meet emission and noise standards set by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
Ensuring Compliance: COP certification verifies that the production of diesel generator sets (DG sets) adheres to the specifications and performance requirements outlined in the Type Approval documentation.
Emission and Noise Standards: This certification ensures that DG sets meet the emission limits and noise standards set by the CPCB.
Market Access: Manufacturers, importers, and assemblers need valid Type Approval and COP certificates to sell, import, or assemble DG sets in India.
Type Approval: Every manufacturer, importer, or assembler needs a Type Approval certificate for each product model.
COP Certificate: A COP certificate is required for each series of products, and it needs to be validated annually (from July 1st to June 30th).
Testing and Certification: DG sets are tested and certified by authorized agencies like the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) to assess their noise compatibility and emission levels.
